How To Write A Speech

How to write a speech on the fly. Hmmmmm. Most people think you have to know how to write in an entertaining manner, but I don't think that is true. It's more important to write coherently so that when you actually give the speech, you can read and understand what you have written, and now, because it makes sense, you can deliver it in an entertaining manner......that's where the entertainment part comes in.

You don't want to have a wonderful, coherent speech on the pages in front of you and then deliver it as if you were giving a eulogy. The most entertainingly written speeches can put an audience to sleep in minutes if they are given with a sonoral tone or pithy and dry,........so, with that in mind, what exactly is involved in how to write a speech.

The main factor in how to write a speech is how to keep your audience awake! So start out by writing that in big bold letters across your notepad, and then start concentrating on how to write a speech that would be convincingly good.

Now you need to list what the many things are that you want and do not want out of your speech, and you should end up with a wild melange of thoughts and ideas that would have sent the most self-respecting English teacher running for cover.

But.....hey...the job is started and now the writing juices are flowing. The biggest hurdle on how to write a speech is getting something down on paper. Don't worry too much about what you have to write, don't think too hard, just relax, let your writer's juices flow, give your ideas free rein, and before you know it, you have what will be known from now on as the first draft of your speech.

Now, the best way to clear out all those cobwebs and hidden fears that have been cluttering up your mind ever since you found out you had to write a speech, is to put the speech aside.............and concentrate on doing something more interesting. One of the most interesting things that usually comes to my mind at this point, is going down to the nearest watering hole for a cold one. That is the second pointer that should be on your list on how to write a speech.

Now that you have undertaken pointer number two and you are in a very clear frame of mind..........probably the next morning or maybe the next afternoon...........it's time to go back to the first draft and read it through. Read it again, and take the bits and pieces that look and sound halfway decent and usable at this point, and work with them to produce a second draft, and then a third..........maybe even a fourth. Now you have it where everything looks and sounds just the way it should to keep your audience interested and awake. And that's how it's done.

That's how to write a speech...........on the fly.
